From Mexico to Albania! What's your biggest budget travel question?

Hello Reader!

We're writing to you from Albania – country number 12 on our American Expat and nomadic journey! As we settle into life in this beautiful and surprisingly affordable Balkan country, we wanted to share some updates and hear what's on your minds.

Life in Albania: Our Latest Adventure

Albania has been full of pleasant surprises. From the warm hospitality of the locals to the incredibly reasonable cost of living, we're discovering why this might be one of Europe's best-kept secrets. The combination of stunning mountain landscapes, beautiful coastline, and rich history makes it feel like we're getting a premium European experience at a fraction of the typical cost.

We're still in our early days here, but already collecting notes and experiences that we'll be sharing with you as we learn more about daily life, costs, and what it's really like to live here as American expats.

Fresh from Mexico: Real Numbers

If you missed it, we recently published our detailed cost breakdown from our 6 weeks in Mexico. We shared the real numbers – everything we spent on accommodation, food, transportation, and those little extras that can add up. It's always our goal to give you honest, practical information you can actually use for your own planning.

Mexico continues to prove itself as one of the most budget-friendly destinations for Americans living abroad, and we've also been sharing our Mexico City experiences through several travel guides focused on authentic, budget-conscious exploration.

What Do You Need Help With?

Here's where we want to hear from you! Rather than assuming what would be most helpful, we'd love to know:

  • What's your biggest challenge in planning or living abroad on a budget?
  • Are there specific destinations you're curious about that you'd like us to explore?
  • What part of the expat process feels most overwhelming? (Visas, housing, healthcare, daily logistics?)
  • If you're already living abroad, what unexpected challenges have you encountered?
  • What budget questions keep you up at night when you think about making the move?

Your questions and challenges help us create content that actually addresses what you're facing, so please reply back and let us know.

Connect with Us and Other Travelers

We love building community around this journey! If you're looking for detailed destination guides and our honest cost breakdowns, head to our website where we share the nitty-gritty details about living abroad on a budget.

For daily glimpses into our current adventures and quick tips, follow us on our Facebook page – it's where we share those "in the moment" discoveries and experiences.

We've also started a Nomad Budget Travelers group as a space for people to ask questions, share advice, and connect with others interested in budget expat living. It's still growing, but we'd love to have you be part of building this community from the ground up.

While we're on the topic of community, Sandra has created a couple of other groups that might catch your interest. The Women Expats in Albania group is a supportive space for English-speaking women to share honest experiences about daily life in this beautiful country. Whether you're planning your first visit, thinking about a longer stay, or figuring out how to make friends and navigate a new culture, it's a place for real talk and genuine support.

On a completely different note, if you're an avid reader 📚 like we are (and especially if you rely on digital libraries while traveling), Sandra also created the Libby App Enthusiasts – a community for people who love using their library's digital resources. It's not specifically travel related, but it's another example of how we love connecting people around shared interests and creating spaces where genuine help and recommendations can flourish.

Until Next Time...

We're grateful to have you along on this journey with us. Whether you're reading from your home base, actively planning your next move, or writing from your own international adventure, know that you're part of a community that believes it's never too late to start living differently.

We'd love to hear about your experiences, questions, or plans. Hit reply and let us know what's on your mind!

Safe travels and budget-friendly adventures,

Sandra & Jeff
